CREATIVE - DIRECTOR

Aida was born in Moscow, the former Soviet Union, to a Russian mother and an Eritrean father. Her family immigrated to Toronto, Canada, in the 80s. At the age of sixteen, Aida began her career with the Canadian Forces, proudly serving for 23 years. She brings many transferable skills to any film or TV production set, including creativity, problem-solving, and tactical acumen, which she has developed in both environments.  Capt. Gabriel served in Bosnia as a private with 1RCR in 1997 and in Afghanistan with 2RCR’s composite Command HQ in 2007.

Being of a mixed race background and growing up in both Eastern Europe and North America, Aida has always had a passion for a variety of artistic mediums. Aida attended Trebas Institute, completing her diploma in Engineering and Sound Recording in 1991, as well as a BFA in Film Studies from Ryerson University. For her BFA studies, Aida wrote, directed, produced, and edited over eight short films. She also worked in various capacities on over thirty-three other productions. One such short film that Aida co-created, titled “The Lament” and starring Emma Lu Romerein, was selected and screened in the short dance corner at the CANNES FILM festival (2011). Aida has also consulted as a Military Advisor on an episode of “Murdoch Mysteries” (2010).

Always, the goal for this producer-writer-director is to share compelling stories that both entertain and enlighten, stories that prompt us to think.
